Wireless Mirroring Arrives in OS 10.8, Thanks to Apple TV

Apple 0 No Comments

A new feature coming to the next version of OS X (Mountain Lion) is the ability to mirror the content of your Mac to any Apple TV connected display. AirPlay Mirroring sends a video stream with audio to your HDTV.

A Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and suddenly my Mac can be in two places at once. But wouldn’t be even cooler if I told you that you could download TouchPad, turning your iPad/iPhone/iPod into both a wireless keyboard and mouse.

With Wireless Mirroring just one of many new and notable features of 10.8, they are definitely making progress but I feel like Apple is stepping away from the power user to the more casual user.

iPhone 5: Dual-Core A5 Chip, 8MP cam, 1080p video

Apple | Gadgets | iPhone/iPod 0 No Comments

Apple’s A4 chip is starting to show its age as it moves even closer to it’s 2nd birthday. Apple has something new in the works and we will likely see it in the iPhone 5. The new processor, dubbed “A5″ Will essentially be a multi-core version of the existing A4. The A4 processor is actually a re branded ARM Cortex-A8. The upcoming A5 processor is said to be based on the ARM Cortex -A9 CPU, which is a dual 1GHz CPU.

New Grahics Processing Unit as well for iPhone 5. The SGX543 is a GPU upgrade from the existing  SGX535, which can can be found in the iPhone3Gs, iPhone4, and the previous and current gen iPod Touch. This next gen GPU will purportedly also allow for OS X’s OpenCL tech to be introduced into the iOS. This means even better gaming and system performance for all upcoming iOS devices (Think awesome Apple TV and iPad Gaming.)

Also, news has come forth sitting a 8MP OmniVision sensor could power the iPhone 5 camera. The new sensor includes improved hardware that would bump video resolution up to 1080p and offer digital image stabilization and decreased rolling shutter effects as well as 20 percent improvement in peak quantum efficiency in all color channels, a 35 percent improvement in low-light.

I’m impressed overall, is it silly to want a micro-sd card slot too?

Apple purchases Lala, but why?

Apple | Media | Web 2.0.fuTurE 0 No Comments

lala_logoI’m sure you’re on the same track as me when you think “subscription service”, but I  feel like Apple has other plans for its recent acquisition.

How Lala works. Lala’s Music Mover quickly matches the songs on your computer to Lala’s licensed catalog. Songs you already have and playlists you’ve created are instantly added to your Lala collection for free. The number of songs you can add is unlimited. Lala users have been purchasing the rights to stream their music an unlimited number of times for ten cents per song

As stated above, the idea with Lala is to be able to listen to your music anywhere on the web. Simple sync your home music with Lala and you’re good to go. Whether or not Apple will stick to this business model or not is still unknown, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Here is what others think Apple has in mind for Lala:

“The deal makes sense. It seems inevitable that Apple will eventually launch its own cloud-based streaming music service. And that’s exactly what Lala is — an iTunes in the cloud, with some interesting pricing mechanics.” -TechCrunch

“Other music industry insiders are wondering what Apple is buying exactly. Lala’s licenses for streaming music with the major music labels are not transferable to any acquirer.” -NYTimes

OLED goodness to grace MacBook Pro at WWDC?

Apple | Rumor 0 No Comments

“An LG staffer has made the very bold claim that 15in Apple notebooks equipped with OLED displays will appear within months… the mole added that once Apple’s unveiled its 15in OLED notebook, LG will then launch its own standalone 15in OLED panels later in the year.”

An interesting rumor to say the least. Would it be plausible to have this as a BTO option, or would we simply see this implemented in Apples higher end models?

Enable streaming of HD Web Content in Front Row.

            Apple 0 No Comments

logoFront Row alone is a great app, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement.
Let me tell you a little bit about a nice open source piece of code called understudy.

Understudy is a free add-on that allows OS X’s Front Row to access HD Streaming content via the web.
It’s still early in development but Understudy already supports Netflix and to some degree, Hulu.

As the developer states. it’s still a work in progress. But for those of you with a Netflix account, a definitely recommend you give it a try.

Download and find more details here.

4-06-09tcThe 2TB Time Capsule from Apple. Leaving no bits or bytes unbacked up.

Rumor has it the it’s in the works, a 2TB version of Apple’s ever so useful Time Capsule. I don’t know about you, but if actually did important work I would be super ecstatic about this. 2TB, double what Apple currently offers, is enough for serious digital professionals to actually utilize. The higher capacity device also extends its abilities to backup multiple machines. This new 2TB model is actually a great investment for small companies looking to centralize and backup their important data.

No word on pricing or date of inception yet but you can find the full story over at engadget.com

macscreenGenAudio recently released AstoundStereo Expander 1.2. AstoundStereo Expander is a program that essentially enhances and expands you current stereo sound.

AstoundStereo is a 4D sound experience using only two audio channels, such as headphones or laptop speakers. It processes all digital audio on your laptop or desktop computer in real-time utilizing AstoundSound technology to enhance the audio in your existing music, movie and game collections.

I gave this little program a test drive last night while watching Quantum of Solace. (Note: I was using a 2.1 external sound system from AlTec Lansing. Your experience may differ.) I toggled it on and off while watching and re-watching certain parts of the movie. For the most part it did a pretty good job of actually making it sound better. The difference wasn’t drastic but it was a pleasant improvement from what I was used to.

This seems very similar to Dolby’s 5.1 Stereo Headphone Technology.
