Quicktime X brings native screen recording to 10.6

Apple | Rumor 0 No Comments

“People familiar with the latest betas of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard have been reporting over the past several weeks the addition of a ‘Screen recording’ option in the File menu of the new Quick Time X Player due to ship with the OS overhaul later this summer.”
“When selecting the screen recording option under recent pre-release distributions of Snow Leopard, a recording interface prompts the user to begin a video capture then disappears. A small footprint controller in the upper-right hand side of the Mac OS X menubar can be used to end the video capture.”

Via Appleinsider.

I just keep on getting more and more excitied for 10.6. Check back often for news and reviews covering everything Apple.

OLED goodness to grace MacBook Pro at WWDC?

Apple | Rumor 0 No Comments

“An LG staffer has made the very bold claim that 15in Apple notebooks equipped with OLED displays will appear within months… the mole added that once Apple’s unveiled its 15in OLED notebook, LG will then launch its own standalone 15in OLED panels later in the year.”

An interesting rumor to say the least. Would it be plausible to have this as a BTO option, or would we simply see this implemented in Apples higher end models?

New 17″ iMac for $899?

Apple | Hardware | Rumor 1 1 Comment

imacEvidence of a 17″ iMac has been leaked by the Apple education site.
While only mentioned in the educational section at the moment, a sub $1,000 desktop isn’t a horrible idea for Apple to introduce to the masses. 17″ can leave a little to be desired when watching HD movies and playing games but I don’t believe this one is meant for that. I have a feeling this is going to be directly marketed towards educational facilities.

There is no word on when or if this will hit the official Apple Retail store.

Expect integrated graphics and a not so high-end CPU.

You can find the details over at the Apple education site. Apple.com/education

Next Gen iPhone to sport video capabilities?

          Apple | Gadgets | Hardware | iPhone/iPod | OS | Rumor 1 1 Comment

specs_box20080909A recent article from AppleInsider is claiming that sometime this year (Late Spring/Early Fall) we will see some hardware updates to the iPhone. One of the updates being video support. They say their source is a very reliable one when it comes to Apple hardware.

Also, Engadget recently picked up on some goodies in iPhone OS 3.0. They have some screen shots for the new and upcoming OS that shows the option for video uploads to mobileme. Put these two stories together and it sounds pretty convincing that the iPhone will be getting video capabilities.

Now all we need is copy and paste….oh wait, that’s coming too!

All in all some very descent updates. Nice to see the Mac Mini finally getting some love. I’m sure the slowing economy renewed Apple’s interest in it’s lower end model.
While the Mac Pro is still just a dream to me, It’s nice to know they are staying on the ball.

LG signs contract with Apple – Touchscreen iMacs?

                                    Apple | Hardware | Rumor 2 2 Comments

imacIt’s no secret that Apple gets the majority of its displays from LG. Now it seems that it will continue that way for at least 5 more years. Just the other day LG announced that it has signed a 5 year contract to supply Apple with LCD Displays, a deal worth close to $500 Million.

This deal gives strong support to recent rumors of Apple supposedly looking for multi-touch displays to implement in the iMac line. LG is currently producing multi-touch displays and this recent contract will make it very easy for Apple to get its hands on some.

                                      Apple working on iPhone Nano?

                                      Apple | iPhone/iPod | Rumor 0 No Comments

Well, if we have learned anything from the past it is that cases can predict the future fairly well.

Recently,a company called XSKN has put up a link on it’s website for an iPhone Nano case. The arrival of this case may be a simple mistake or serious leak. Rumors of a cheaper iPhone have been circulating for awhile now. As sketchy as all of this may seem, the app store is a serious market for Apple and a lower cost iPhone could drive profits upwards. As of now, the details are sketchy but semi-reliable sources state that the Nano version would lack 3G support.

PPC support to be an optional install for Snow Leopard

                                      Apple | OS | Rumor 2 2 Comments

The recent seed of OS X 10.6 (Build:10A222) to developers has brought about rumors. Rumors of PowerPC support being an optional install instead of being systematically bundled with the OS. This news along with rumors that Snow Leopard may only run on Intel machines is making me and my G4 nervous.

However, most common apps have already become Universal Binaries, which means that they are able to run natively on both PPC and Intel machines. So, even though the last PowerPC machine shipped from Apple less then three years ago, PowerPC users may be quite upset when they find out that their PowerMac G5′s and PowerBook G4′s will not be able to take advantage of the new OS from Apple.
