Next Gen iPhone to sport video capabilities?

Apple | Gadgets | Hardware | iPhone/iPod | OS | Rumor 1 1 Comment

specs_box20080909A recent article from AppleInsider is claiming that sometime this year (Late Spring/Early Fall) we will see some hardware updates to the iPhone. One of the updates being video support. They say their source is a very reliable one when it comes to Apple hardware.

Also, Engadget recently picked up on some goodies in iPhone OS 3.0. They have some screen shots for the new and upcoming OS that shows the option for video uploads to mobileme. Put these two stories together and it sounds pretty convincing that the iPhone will be getting video capabilities.

Now all we need is copy and paste….oh wait, that’s coming too!

      The new iPod Shuffle.

      Apple | Gadgets | iPhone/iPod 1 1 Comment

shuffle-silverAs you may or may not know, Apple recently updated it’s Shuffle lineup.

Weighing less then half an ounce, the iPod Shuffle is a true on-the-go player. The included earphones feature a built in volume controller, a nice addition to the usually dull earphones that ship with ipods.

Doubling as a flash drive, the iPod Shuffle still struggles to make the $79 price tag look appealing. Such a basic player really shouldn’t be demanding such a high price. A $59 price tag is a tad bit easier to swallow, especially considering a 4GB off brand MP3 player goes for about $39.

The one saving grace of this iPod shuffle is the fact that Apple has finally found a way to make a screen-less mp3 more useable. The VoiceOver feature allows the iPod Shuffle to announce song names, Albums, and playlists. This finally makes navigating your songs and playlists possible. Whether this makes the Shuffle worth the $79 is up to, but I must say, this one is full of improvements.

iPhone- “Flash will hold me back no more!”

                Apple | iPhone/iPod | OS 0 No Comments

flashFace it, the lack of copy and paste is not the drawback of the iPhone. The only real drawback has been the lack of flash support in browsers. Apple remained mum for quite some time, but now, the news is out.

Apple and Adobe have teamed up to bring Flash to the iPhone. They will work together to implement a fully functioning version of flash that will installable on all current and new iPhone and iPod Touchs’. This is great news when it comes media junkies looking to watch them streaming vids online.

Another thing Apple is doing is advocating HTML 5 as a replacement and is collaborating with fellow browser developers Mozilla and Opera to perform many of the same functions of Flash but in a more universal and less resource-hungry standard.

Top 3 battery backups for iPhone/iPod Touch

                      Gadgets | iPhone/iPod 0 No Comments

Your iPhone/iPod touch is designed to be an on the go gadget. You take it with you to work, school, and everywhere else you go. You use it stay connected and to get things done when you are on the go. So when you pull it out expecting to get some quick work done, only to find out that the battery is dead, you better have a backup plan. A backup plan in this case is a battery backup designed for your iPhone/iPod Touch.

                      1. thumb_batteriesMophie’s Juice Pack – Coming in at $99.95,  it’s the king of battery backups. It offers an extra 6 hours of talk time and an extra 8 hours of video playback.  If the price is aMini little bit rich for your blood, try using code juice09 at checkout to get an extra %5 off.
                      2. Kensington’s Mini Battery Pack – Listed at $49.99,  it’s half the price of our previous option. Even at half the price it still offers some pretty good results. 3 hours of extra talk time and 6 hours of additional video playback. The Mini Battery Pack, like its name implies is also much smaller then the Juice Pack.
                      3. powerlinkMacally Powerlink – Priced at $49.99 the Macally Powerlink is in essence, a digital multi-tool. Not only can it provide emergency power to your iPhone/iPod, but it also functions as a 2GB flash drive and sync cable.

To me it seems like the Kensington is the best deal and I’m sure if you were to shop arround abit you may even be able to snag a better deal. The Macally Powerlink is a nifty little gadget as well, while its battery power is minimal, it can still be very useful.

                      Apple working on iPhone Nano?

                      Apple | iPhone/iPod | Rumor 0 No Comments

Well, if we have learned anything from the past it is that cases can predict the future fairly well.

Recently,a company called XSKN has put up a link on it’s website for an iPhone Nano case. The arrival of this case may be a simple mistake or serious leak. Rumors of a cheaper iPhone have been circulating for awhile now. As sketchy as all of this may seem, the app store is a serious market for Apple and a lower cost iPhone could drive profits upwards. As of now, the details are sketchy but semi-reliable sources state that the Nano version would lack 3G support.

                      Apple Brings Order To Chaos

                      Apple | iPhone/iPod 2 2 Comments

Since it’s inception earlier this year, the iTunes App Store has largely been regarded as a big win for both Apple and independent developers. Like most things though, the App Store is not without it’s criticisms, one of the larger of which is the general lack of organization.

While the Apps are organized in a general way, it is very difficult to browse through the store and discover new apps without prior knowledge. We’ll Apple has set out to remedy this situation by launching a new site, “iPhone Your Life.”

                      iphoneyourlife.png

This new section to the Apple Web site, provides a nice place to browse and find information on Apps without having to dig through the impossibly dense App store. Overall, it’s just nice to see Apple addressing some of the issues with App stores, and also showing support for 3rd party developers.

                      iPhone popularity cause for concern?

                      Apple | iPhone/iPod | Rumor 0 No Comments

With over 10 million sold, the iPhone is becoming a bigger and bigger opportunity for hackers. While the iPhone has yet to see a malicious hack, you can bet there are people out there trying. MacX.cn has a an article on this as well, but it all sounds like speculation to me.

Should you worry? Probably not. People have been saying this same thing about OS X for the last 5 years. They keep saying OS X is gonna be a target soon. Well, let me tell you something, 22-24 million users seems like alot of incentive to me, and if we haven’t seen anything yet, I wouldn’t expect anything anytime soon. OS X seems fool proof to me. Only time will tell, but if the past can tell us anything about the future, I think you’re safe for now.

Software Saturday: Final Fantasy coming to iPhone

                      Games | iPhone/iPod | Rumor | Software/Freeware 1 1 Comment

For all of you Final Fantasy fans with iPods and iPhones, I bring good news.

Square Enix is reported to be currently working on a new version of the game specifically for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Although it is expected to be released sometime this winter with a title of “Crystal Defenders”, details are still scarce. From what I was able to gather, Square Enix is attempting to add a bit of tower defense attitude to the game. I personally am a fan of (good) tower defense games. So while it is a ways away, it could end up being another great app for the portable, and profitable Apple world.

Play, pause, skip, and shuffle. View your songs, playlists, and album art all from your iPod touch/iPhone!

Once you have paired your iPhone/iPod touch to your Mac/AppleTV you gain access to all the multimedia controls. This free app from Apple is a must for all. It makes perfect sense, especially if your really lazy but keep your iPod/iPhone on you at all times. Just imagine your sitting outside on your patio sipping on a cold on and listening to your music that is playing inside on your mac. And then, all of a sudden, a song your girlfriend downloaded comes on! What do you do! Well hopefully you have this app installed so instead of panicking and getting up and knocking over your drink. You can just slide out your iPod/iPhone and take of the matter at hand.

I can also see this same technology making it’s way into other applications, such as remote file management. I know you can kinda do it now, but I’m expecting an official release from Apple soon announcing a mobile desktop management program.
