Software Saturday: Final Fantasy coming to iPhone

For all of you Final Fantasy fans with iPods and iPhones, I bring good news.

Square Enix is reported to be currently working on a new version of the game specifically for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Although it is expected to be released sometime this winter with a title of “Crystal Defenders”, details are still scarce. From what I was able to gather, Square Enix is attempting to add a bit of tower defense attitude to the game. I personally am a fan of (good) tower defense games. So while it is a ways away, it could end up being another great app for the portable, and profitable Apple world.

Follow the link for more pics.

Mac to the Wii, and back.

You may remember in the past that I have gone over methods of getting your Mac to communicate with both your XBOX 360 and your Sony PS3. Today I get to complete the circle by introducing you to Wii Transfer from Riverfold software.

Wii Transfer allows you to share movies, music, and pictures from your mac to your Wii using the Wii internet channel. It also includes advanced support that allows you to view iTunes playlists and iPhoto photo albums on your Wii as well. It even includes support for converting your movies into a format the Wii understands as well as management for save games.

It’s not free but the one time fee of $19 is not that bad if your and avid Wii user. You can find more info as well as the download link here: Wii Transfer.

Quinn. Because everyone should love tetris.

I have spent countless hours playing Tetris for NES on my HDTV. While it isn’t exactly an HD experience, I still have a great time. But recently, I have been able to upgrade my Tetris experience thanks to Quinn. Network play and beautiful graphics make Quinn nice to look at and play.

“Quinn is an arcade-style tetromino puzzle game written and designed specifically for Mac OS X. It features a clean, elegant user interface, beautiful graphics, and smooth, subtle animations for fluid gameplay. Instead of reinventing the game with yet another variation of the rules, the goal of Quinn is to combine the simplicity of the original idea with the genuine Mac experience for perfect user enjoyment.”

With a price tag of $0.00, I strongly suggest you take Quinn for a spin. Especially if you have a bunch of free time to kill

    Enigmo 2 from Pangea Software

Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind paying for software. If I find it useful, I’ll pay for it. I have paid for the following OS X apps. Candybar,Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, and Enigmo.  But that’s about it. So seeing Enigmo on that list should raise a flag saying”woah, this must be amazing if it’s on his list”. And your right. It is an amazing game. The price tag of $20 is a little bit more the I would like but I really liked the game.

Enigmo 2 is a very unique puzzle game in which you use a series of tools to direct different liquids to designated areas on the screen. The whole is easy to learn which makes picking up the game very fun and very easy.

    Dofus: The free online MMORPG

I wasn’t always a fan of RPG’s. But when World of Warcraft came out I became addicted the genre. The most important thing I have learned is that just because the game doesn’t look the best, doesn’t means it’s not one hell of a game. I’ve been playing WoW on and off for the last 4 years. During that time I have experimented with many other RPG’s. My biggest complaint was the $15 a month fee. It’s not that bad but I feel it is a bit higher then necessary. This pricing issue drove me to look for an alternative to WoW. What I found was Dofus. It’s a flash based MMORPG developed by Ankama Games in France. Don’t let the flash issue scare you away. Dofus runs inside of your web browser from a 125MB folder downloaded from the site. This factor alone makes it playable on practically any system. The visuals are quite impressive and it’s not very taxing on your system. You have the option of playing for free but if you have a little extra cash around you can subscribe for $6/month and get access to higher level areas and monsters. The cool thing is they don’t make you pay. You can fool around for free and if you decide you like it you can begin subscribing and get access to the whole world. With over 7 million players world wide. This is defiantly a game you wanna check out.

Get it and more info HERE.

    Rock Band for the PS3

As you read this It’s a Sunday night in the boring town of Willmar, MN. The sun is just going down and the smell of freshly cut grass is filling the air. Then.. seemingly out of nowhere.. “Hey ho, lets go hey ho, lets go hey ho, lets go hey ho, lets go!” These four words bring up my first part of the review: the songs. 59 songs by well known artists ranging from The Who to Flyleaf. Other artists and songs include, but not limited to, Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones, (Don’t fear) the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult, Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash and many other classics. Also, don’t forget there are other songs and even albums available for download from the Playstation store! Read the rest of this entry »

Do something fun with your Mac! -Motion sensing games for your Mac laptop.

Chances are you have no shortage of work to do on your Mac. But life is short. Take some time out of your day to enjoy these fun little motion sensing Mac apps!

Tunnel - This is a tribute to Tunnel, an awesome arcade game one can play on an hp48 calculator. Simple, responsive and addictive. What else does a good game need? So I decided to make a mac port of it, but this one can only be controlled by tilting your laptop. Simply download and double click to launch. (Leopard Only)

netPong – Pretty self explanatory. It’s a networked version of pong that allows you to play against a friend on your local network. To play alone, just launch it. Tilt your computer to control the paddle. To play with a friend, make sure both of you are in the same local network. One of you has to start his copy of Pong, and the other should start his after 5-10 seconds… No other setup needs to be done! (Universal)

Skip Checker – Skip Checker is very unique and useful app. It continuously monitors your macs sms (sudden motion sensor) data. The program allows you to set thresholds, that once reached, can trigger different actions. A good example would be setting it up so slightly tipping your mac to the right will cause iTunes to skip on track forward, tip to the left, and it goes back one.

As you can see, They are still a fresh idea in the minds of developers. But I’m sure we will be seeing more to come in the not so distant future. -Enjoy!

Play Zelda on your Mac just like when you played on NES!

    –Update–
    Zelda Classic 2.5 build 1304 Released <-Article
This is the newest working version and you should try this one first.
Zelda Classic 2.5 Build 1304 (Intel Only) <-File
    Zelda Classic Build 895 (PPC/Intel) <-File
    –/Update–

I have always been a very big fan of the original Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda. I have played it through out my life on my NES and I still play it at home, But I have been looking for a way to play it on the go, like on my laptop without having to find a NES emulator and ROM.

I knew it had been ported to the PC under then name Zelda Classic a few years back. So I did some searching and I found a dedicated group of workers who still maintain working ports for OS X and Windows.  One of the cool things about the ported version is it comes with a quest editor that allows you to essential add your own levels and story to the game. That’s purely optional though. If you just wanna play the good ol’ Zelda. Then go right a head with Zelda Classic for OS X.*
