The BT-1. A Wireless Webcam for your Mac.

Apple | Gadgets 0 No Comments

bt1_largephotoThe BT-1 is a Bluetooth Webcam produced by Ecamm and marketed towards mac users. It offers native H.264 video streaming and AAC audio, Two great codecs which should hopefully compensate for its lackluster 640×480 resolution. (Really? 640×480? maybe I’m missing something, and maybe it has something to do with streaming rate limitations from using Bluetooth (300KBps), but 640×480 seems a little out of date.)

Other then the relatively low video resolution, the BT-1 does have a few nice features. The thing itself can run for 4 hours before needing to be plugged in again for recharging. I don’t know anyone who would wanna video chat longer then that anyways.

It also comes with a nice mini-tripod that makes it easy to setup just about anywhere.

While I still can’t exactly think of a situation where a wireless webcam would be overly useful, I’m sure it serves its purpose well.

Purchase and find more details here.

4-06-09tcThe 2TB Time Capsule from Apple. Leaving no bits or bytes unbacked up.

Rumor has it the it’s in the works, a 2TB version of Apple’s ever so useful Time Capsule. I don’t know about you, but if actually did important work I would be super ecstatic about this. 2TB, double what Apple currently offers, is enough for serious digital professionals to actually utilize. The higher capacity device also extends its abilities to backup multiple machines. This new 2TB model is actually a great investment for small companies looking to centralize and backup their important data.

No word on pricing or date of inception yet but you can find the full story over at engadget.com

Next Gen iPhone to sport video capabilities?

                                      Apple | Gadgets | Hardware | iPhone/iPod | OS | Rumor 1 1 Comment

specs_box20080909A recent article from AppleInsider is claiming that sometime this year (Late Spring/Early Fall) we will see some hardware updates to the iPhone. One of the updates being video support. They say their source is a very reliable one when it comes to Apple hardware.

Also, Engadget recently picked up on some goodies in iPhone OS 3.0. They have some screen shots for the new and upcoming OS that shows the option for video uploads to mobileme. Put these two stories together and it sounds pretty convincing that the iPhone will be getting video capabilities.

Now all we need is copy and paste….oh wait, that’s coming too!

                                          The new iPod Shuffle.

                                          Apple | Gadgets | iPhone/iPod 1 1 Comment

shuffle-silverAs you may or may not know, Apple recently updated it’s Shuffle lineup.

Weighing less then half an ounce, the iPod Shuffle is a true on-the-go player. The included earphones feature a built in volume controller, a nice addition to the usually dull earphones that ship with ipods.

Doubling as a flash drive, the iPod Shuffle still struggles to make the $79 price tag look appealing. Such a basic player really shouldn’t be demanding such a high price. A $59 price tag is a tad bit easier to swallow, especially considering a 4GB off brand MP3 player goes for about $39.

The one saving grace of this iPod shuffle is the fact that Apple has finally found a way to make a screen-less mp3 more useable. The VoiceOver feature allows the iPod Shuffle to announce song names, Albums, and playlists. This finally makes navigating your songs and playlists possible. Whether this makes the Shuffle worth the $79 is up to, but I must say, this one is full of improvements.

Top 3 battery backups for iPhone/iPod Touch

                                                    Gadgets | iPhone/iPod 0 No Comments

Your iPhone/iPod touch is designed to be an on the go gadget. You take it with you to work, school, and everywhere else you go. You use it stay connected and to get things done when you are on the go. So when you pull it out expecting to get some quick work done, only to find out that the battery is dead, you better have a backup plan. A backup plan in this case is a battery backup designed for your iPhone/iPod Touch.

                                                    1. thumb_batteriesMophie’s Juice Pack – Coming in at $99.95,  it’s the king of battery backups. It offers an extra 6 hours of talk time and an extra 8 hours of video playback.  If the price is aMini little bit rich for your blood, try using code juice09 at checkout to get an extra %5 off.
                                                    2. Kensington’s Mini Battery Pack – Listed at $49.99,  it’s half the price of our previous option. Even at half the price it still offers some pretty good results. 3 hours of extra talk time and 6 hours of additional video playback. The Mini Battery Pack, like its name implies is also much smaller then the Juice Pack.
                                                    3. powerlinkMacally Powerlink – Priced at $49.99 the Macally Powerlink is in essence, a digital multi-tool. Not only can it provide emergency power to your iPhone/iPod, but it also functions as a 2GB flash drive and sync cable.

To me it seems like the Kensington is the best deal and I’m sure if you were to shop arround abit you may even be able to snag a better deal. The Macally Powerlink is a nifty little gadget as well, while its battery power is minimal, it can still be very useful.

Two weeks ago I brought you “Mac Storage Solutions“; An article that analyzed and reviewed 5 different external drive options for Macs. Capacity and features isn’t everything though, most Apple users prefer a product with style if given the opportunity. So today I bring you the 3 most stylish external drives.
