Apple Insider claims to have information regarding the future of Apples Mac Mini computer system.
Claims point out that the Mac Mini will certainly get an update sometime in the new future. This conflicts a report posted earlier by Mac Rumors, stating that the Mac Mini had already been discontinued.
The post stated that Mac Mini could have been announced dead as soon as Apples Quarter 4 financial results which were released on Tuesday the 21st. Apple made no mention of this in their conference call and the Mac Mini still remains one of Apple’s systems.
Something interesting that Apple Insider mentions is that the Mini is one of Apples best selling systems. It is pointed out that the Mac Mini quickly sells out of the Refurbished Store and is ranked #2 in Amazon’s best selling desktop computer list.
The post suggest that the following will be updated on the system:
The new Mini will utilize the same display configuration found on the new Macbook Pro’s. This will certainly lead to an easier compatibility with the new Cinema Display. The system will now be able to support 4 GB of Ram instead of the 2 GB that comes shipped and the 3 GB that it can support.
The super drive will be changed to an SATA connection in order for it to be more compatible in server type setting. The Mac Mini’s have become increasingly popular to businesses that want a small server system that doesn’t cost the amount of an Xserve. It is speculated that Apple might offer the option for a dual HDD, removing the super drive in favor of more storage.
Look for this to be stored in the potential rumor mill for the upcoming MacWorld conference in January. It seems since notebooks and Iphones/Ipods have been update, Apple might be looking to refresh its desktop line next.
